BDI3C introduces students to the exciting world of entrepreneurship by exploring the skills, challenges, and opportunities involved in starting and running a business

Through case studies, creative projects, and personal reflection, students learn how to

  • Develop business ideas
  • Analyze market trends
  • Write venture plans
  • Present pitches.
This course empowers learners to think innovatively, act ethically, and apply real-world strategies to bring their business ideas to life.

Unit 1: Enterprising People and Entrepreneurship

Students begin by exploring the qualities of successful entrepreneurs and the role of entrepreneurship in society.
Lessons include:
  • What is an Entrepreneur

  • Benefits and Challenges of Entrepreneurship

  •  Entrepreneurship Ethics

  • Impact of Entrepreneurs on the Community

  • Self-Analysis and Entrepreneurial Strengths

Unit 2: Ideas and Opportunities for Ventures

This unit helps students generate viable business ideas and conduct initial market research.
Lessons include:
  • Invention and Innovation

  • Canadian Contributions to Business

  • Identifying Business Ventures

  • Developing a Venture Plan

  • Introduction to Marketing

  • PEST & SWOT Analysis

Unit 3: The Benefits of a Venture Plan

Students learn how to structure a full venture plan and conduct research to support their ideas.
Lessons include:
  • Purpose and Importance of Venture Plans

  • Components of a Business Plan

  • Using Sources of Information for Planning

Unit 4: Developing and Completing a Venture Plan

Students finalize their business ideas by building comprehensive plans and strategies.
Lessons include:
  • Resource Analysis

  • Business Ownership Types

  • Production and Inventory Planning

  • Marketing and Pricing Strategies

  • Financial Planning and Projections

  • Completing the Full Venture Plan

  • 70% of the final grade is based on in-course activities, including:
    • Unit assignments focused on planning, research, and market analysis

    • Presentations, business concept write-ups, and SWOT assessments

  • 30% of the final grade is based on final evaluations:
    • 10% Culminating project: A complete business plan

    • 20% Final exam: Entrepreneurship concepts, ethics, and planning
All assessments are aligned with the Ontario curriculum and are designed to cultivate real-world business skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.
