SNC1W introduces students to fundamental scientific concepts and methods across biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. With a focus on inquiry and hands-on exploration, students develop scientific literacy and learn to apply scientific thinking to real-world issues

Unit 1: Biology – Sustainable Ecosystems
Students investigate the interactions within ecosystems and explore the importance of biodiversity and sustainability.

Unit 2: Chemistry – Properties of Matter

Assessment in SNC1W emphasizes scientific inquiry, lab work, and real-world application:
  • 70% of the final grade is based on course work and lab activities. This includes interactive experiments, concept applications, and unit assignments.
  • 30% of the final grade is based on final evaluations:
          10% Culminating investigation or STEM project
          20% Final written exam assessing conceptual understanding and scientific literacy
All evaluations align with Ontario curriculum expectations and encourage students to think critically and ethically about science and its role in society.
