FSF10 introduces students to the French language in practical, everyday contexts.

The course focuses on developing basic listening

  • Reading
  • Writing skills through engaging
  • Real-world topics.
Students build foundational grammar and vocabulary while gaining an appreciation of Francophone cultures.
Unit 1: Everyday Language and Self-Expression
Students strengthen their foundational communication skills.
Lessons include:
  • Greetings and Introductions

  • Expressing Preferences

  • Pronouns and Articles

  • Dates and Numbers

  • The Present Tense

  • Introducing Yourself (Je me présente)

Unit 2: Family, Routines, and Descriptions
This unit focuses on personal life, routines, and descriptive language.
Lessons include:
  • My Family

  • Jouer and Faire

  • Adjectives and Descriptions

  • Irregular and Reflexive Verbs

  • My Daily Routine

Unit 3: Past Events and Storytelling
Students learn to talk about past experiences using different tenses.
Lessons include:
  • The Passé Composé with Avoir

  • The Passé Composé with Être

  • Irregular Verbs in Passé Composé

  • The Imparfait

  • Biographies

Unit 4: French in the World and Travel
This unit expands students' understanding of Francophone cultures and travel language.
Lessons include:
  • French in Africa and Asia

  • Aller and the Future Tenses (Futur Proche, Futur Simple)

  • Planning a Trip

  • Budgeting for Travel

  • 70% of the final grade is based on coursework, and assignments.
    • Grammar practice and vocabulary development

    • Oral presentations and dialogues

    • Reading comprehension tasks

    • Writing assignments (letters, descriptions, narratives)

    • Cultural research and reflection

    • Media and culture assignments

    • Quizzes and discussion participation

  • 30% of the final grade is based on final  evaluations:

    • 10% Culminating project (e.g., travel plan, cultural profile)

    • 20% Final exam assessing listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills

All assessments follow Ontario curriculum standards and are designed to develop fluency, accuracy, and cultural literacy in French.
