FSF1D provides students with opportunities to develop communication skills in French, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing
The course builds foundational grammar and vocabulary while introducing students to Francophone cultures.

Unit 1: French Foundations
Students build basic language skills through introductory topics.
Lessons include:
  • Introduction

  • The Alphabet

  • Articles and Nouns

  • Dates and Numbers

  • Greetings and Salutations

Unit 2: Basic Communication and Grammar
This unit strengthens questioning, verb use, and descriptive language.
Lessons include:
  • Formulating Questions

  • Avoir & Être

  • Family Tree Vocabulary

  • Talking About Favourite Things

  • Introducing Yourself (Je me présente)

Unit 3: Nature and Daily Life
Students apply vocabulary and grammar to describe the world around them.
Lessons include:
  • At the Zoo

  • Farm Animals

  • Nature and Seasons

  • Seasons and Weather

  • Dress for the Weather

Unit 4: Food and Everyday Activities
This unit focuses on food, kitchen vocabulary, and common interactions.
Lessons include:
  • Food and Drink

  • In the Kitchen

  • Anyone Can Cook

  • Ordering Food

  • At the Market

  • 70% of the final grade is based on coursework, and assignments.
    • Vocabulary building and grammar exercises

    • Oral practice activities and dialogues

    • Reading comprehension of simple texts

    • Writing tasks (paragraphs, short descriptions, dialogues)

    • Cultural projects and reflections

  • 30% of the final grade is based on final  evaluations:

    • 10% Culminating project (e.g., oral presentation, creative written piece)

    • 20% Final exam assessing listening, reading, writing, and speaking

All assessments follow Ontario curriculum standards and are designed to support language acquisition, cultural understanding, and communication skills in French.
