Unit 1: Creative Writing and Narrative Development
Students enhance creative expression and storytelling techniques

Unit 2: Literary Analysis and Vocabulary Development
This unit focuses on comprehension strategies and interpreting literature.

Students analyze media forms and practice effective communication.

Unit 4: Novel Study and Oral Communication
This unit develops critical reading and speaking skills through literature.
Lessons include:
  • Introduction to Of Mice and Men

  • Of Mice and Men – Chapters 1 & 2

  • Of Mice and Men – Chapters 3 & 4

  • Of Mice and Men – Chapters 5 & 6

  • Themes, Motifs & Symbols in Of Mice and Men

  • Effective Oral Communications

  • 70% of the final grade is based on coursework, including:
    • Creative writing tasks and storytelling projects

    • Literary analyses and reading comprehension assignments

    • Media critiques and news article writing

    • Oral presentations and debates

    • Grammar and vocabulary quizzes

  • 30% of the final grade is based on final  evaluations:

    • 10% Culminating portfolio (creative works, media responses, presentations)

    • 20% Final exam assessing reading, writing, media literacy, and communication

All assessments follow Ontario curriculum standards and are designed to prepare students for postsecondary studies, professional communication, and active participation in Canadian society.
