MCT4C prepares students for college programs in technology, engineering, and applied sciences. The course emphasizes problem-solving, modeling, and practical applications of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and exponentials.

Students develop a strong foundation in math skills required for technical programs, including working with real-world data, interpreting mathematical models, and applying concepts to technology-driven contexts.

Unit 1: Exponential Functions

Students explore exponential relationships and their real-world applications.
Lessons include:
  • Simplifying Exponential Expressions

  • Solving Exponential Equations with Same Base

  • Introduction to Logarithms

  • Graphing Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

  • Real-World Exponential Models

Unit 2: Polynomial Functions

This unit focuses on understanding and graphing polynomials.

  • Polynomial Expressions and Operations

  • Factoring Techniques

  • Graphing Polynomial Functions

  • Solving Polynomial Equations

  •  Modeling and Comparing Polynomial Behaviours

Unit 3: Trigonometric Functions

Unit 4: Geometry and Measurement Applications

This unit introduces vector and measurement-based applications.

Unit 5: Final Evaluation

Students apply their reading and writing skills in two summative evaluations.

  • 70% of the final grade is based on coursework, including:
    • Word problems and application-based assignments

    • Graphing tasks and modeling exercises

    • Trigonometric investigations

    • Unit tests, problem-solving activities, and quizzes

  • 30% of the final grade is based on final evaluations:
    • 10% Culminating real-world math application project

    • 20% Final written exam assessing all math strands

All assessments follow Ontario curriculum standards and are designed to enhance mathematical reasoning, modeling, and applied problem-solving in preparation for college-level technical programs.
